ALEXCi Si|K is formulated based on Potassium Silicate, , with a dual function on crops; as a source of Potassium and Silicon and as an enhancer of self-defense mechanisms of plants against fungal pathogens by inducing biochemical resistance , due to the presence of Silicon.
Silicon enhanced biochemical resistance is associated with increasing the activity of defense-related enzymes, such as polyphenoloxidase, glucanase, peroxidase, and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL); inducing antimicrobial compounds production, such as phenolic, flavonoids, Phytoalexins and pathogenesis-related (PR) proteins in plants; and regulating systemic signals, such as salicylic acid (SA), jasmonic acid (JA), and ethylene (ET).
Silicon improves cell structural strength, reducing the incidence of lodging. Si accumulates in the epidermal tissues increasing the mechanical stability of the plant. Silicon improves resistance to pathogens and insect attack. Si deposition in the epidermis tissues provides a physical barrier to pathogens and insects. Silicon improves photosynthetic activity. The improved structure of the plant has been shown to improve its ability to capture light. Silicon reduces drought and heat stress. The deposition of Si in the plant tissues reduces transpiration rates. Silicon reduces salt stress by inhibiting sodium absorption. Silicon improves utilization of applied fertilisers, particularly nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Silicon alleviates toxicity of iron, manganese, cadmium, aluminium and zinc. Silicon enhances reproduction by improving pollination and increasing pollen fertility.
